Hi, my name is Madison Lazar and I am 17 years old and I want to nominate my mother, Melissa Loid Lazar. She was talking to me about a nomination that one of her friends (and how excited she was for her) just received for this same cause and I started thinking that MY mother is amazing and I want to nominate her. It took some doing to find this information but now that I have, I really want to nominate her.

My mother, a single mother of three, a photographer, a full time sales person, sole support of our family, leads her life everyday as a woman with honar, kindness and integrity. She is the most amazing person I know (and coming from a teenage, that is saying something!)

She recently published a charity calendar, the “2009 Calendar of Love” in an attempt to raise 40,000 for the Women’s Crisis Center in Castle Rock. It took over 600 hours to shoot over 150 children (on location), edit the pictures, meet with the printer, talk with so many people to raise awaremess and to do this with no guidance from anyone, just her personal mission to make a difference (in a large way) for our community.

Her goal was to create an artistic black and white caledar, feathuring children (ages 0-17) for people to puchase and to give 100% of the calendar sales to women and children in need by way of the Crisis Center. She not only dedicated herself to the calendar full time, she also maintained another full time career and did everything she could to be there for us too. She has not made any moeny in this process, in fact, I think it is the opposite, I think the project has actually taken from her personally. (Christmas was lean this year.) My mother gives without asking for anything in return (except that people buy calendars) and even if she does not win the title, I want her to know that she has made a difference in my life and for so many others.

    Thank you for your time.

Hi Madison, thank you so much for such a heart warming letter. Your mother sounds like a wonderful woman and as a single mom myself, I can appreciate all her sacrifices.

Does your mom have a BLOG or a website we could point readers towards?

I will add your mother to the list of nominees. We will start the voting process on Jan 1 so keep checking back with us.

    Have a great holiday.

HI~ she has a website. Her blogs are about photography stuff. She does not have anything right now to post comments like you do.

I am giving you her information. When will she find out about this (how)? I have not talked to her about this and hope she is okay with it.

    Hi Madison,

We will start voting Jan 3rd. We’ll have viewer voting but we also have a panel that will be going through all the nominations along with weighing the votes from our readers.

There will be 10 women chosen to carry the title as 2009’s Most Influential Women. We’ll follow them throughout the year during interviews, follow ups, and many other things to honor them through out the year and help promote their cause or business.

I believe your mom is a wonderful candidate for this title and I look forward to knowing more about her.

Hello Kat. First off I want to say this is absolutely thrilling. Spotted my name as one of the nominated women. Is it possible to correct my name to Lea? Thank you.

I am looking forward meeting the final ten women at the end.

Corrected. So sorry for the misspelling. You’ve had your name thrown in the pot quite a few times. You and Vivian. I look forward to speaking with you personally..and soon.
